The water is clear and shallow, with a soft sandy seabed, making it ideal for swimming. What makes this beach special is the collection of huge cliff-like dark rocks which line the beach and jut out of the sea, too, providing great photo opportunities.

Due to its small size and remote location,Listis Beach has no services or facilities, so make sure you take everything you'll need for the day with you.

Sidonia Beach

For something a bit livelier, spend a day at Sidonia Beach. This popular beach falls between Cape Theophilos and Sendona hill and is known for its long stretch of dark coarse sand and clear waters which are always calm enough for swimming in.

If you don't fancy paying to rent a parasol, you can take advantage of the tamarisk trees on the sand and bag yourself some free natural shade underneath them. When you've had your fill of sunbathing, you can take to the water and try your hand at the water sports on offer or enjoy a game of volleyball at the games court on the beach.

Although there are no eateries on the sand, you'll find plenty of cafes, tavernas and restaurants just a short walk away in Psari Forada.

For something more sophisticated and local, try Thea. This restaurant has been established for more than 20 years and prides itself on serving seasonal dishes made out of fresh, local produce. Some of the restaurant's specialities include whole roast leg of goat, wild rabbit and cuttlefish stifado. But if you fancy one of these dishes, you'll need to give the restaurant a call 24 hours in advance, so the staff have enough time to source the ingredients. If you're staying in Ag.Nikolaos, Plaka or Elounda, Thea will even send a taxi to pick you up or drop you off totally free of charge.

Tamam

Traditional Greek taverna that hits the spot with delicous Greek dishes inspired by family meals at home.Tamam is set in an historical building that used to be a Turkish Hamam and has a unique atmosphere, Try the stuffed vine leaves, any of the traditional Greek pies and delicous aubergine and lamb dishes.
