  • Asteroid (3200) Phaethon experiences extreme solar radiant heating ( ~ 750 °C) during perihelion (0.14 au), leading to comet-like activity. The regolith composition and mechanism of volatile emission are unknown but key to understanding JAXA’s DESTINY+ mission data (fly-by in 2029) and the fate of near-Sun asteroids more generally. By subjecting CM chondrite fragments to fast, open system, cyclic heating (2-20 °C/min), simulating conditions on Phaethon we demonstrate that rapid heating rates combine with the low permeability, resulting in reactions between volatile gases and decomposing minerals. The retention of S-bearing gas limits the thermal decomposition of Fe-sulphides, allowing these minerals to survive repeated heating cycles. Slow escape of S-bearing gases provides a mechanism for repeated gas release from a thermally processed surface and, therefore the comet-like activity without requiring surface renewal to expose fresh material each perihelion cycle. We predict Phaethon regolith is composed of olivine, Fe-sulphides, Ca-sulphates and hematite. Fe-sulphides decompose reversibly, providing a source of volatile gases that sustain comet-like activity over many heating cycles, according to experimental heating of meteorites that simulates the thermal regime of the near-Sun asteroid Phaethon

  • Climate change negative impacts on food production systems have forced large scale food producers to make available less healthy products. Although available on the markets, tomatoes are no more tasting as they used to be and providing fewer nutrients compared to then. This study investigates and compares the quality and yield of organic tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum) produced in an insect net covered photovoltaic greenhouse against ambient production. Plant’s physical characteristics were measured, yields and nutrient content were found at harvest, and environmental conditions (temperature, relative humidity, solar irradiance and CO2) were recorded. Plants grew as high as 160 cm inside the greenhouse under an average afternoon temperature of 30.71 °C and a vapor pressure deficit (VPD) of 1.88 kPa against outside plant growth of 72 cm height under averages of 36.04 °C and 3.05 kPa. Although, inside greenhouse tomatoes were physically more attractive and firm with two times healthier tomatoes (98%), 52.39% higher content in protein, 13.31% more minerals and 13.19% more dry matter than outside tomatoes, the yield from outside environment was 4.57 times higher than that of inside due to probably the used crop variety adapted to the harsh climate. Using a crop variety optimum for greenhouse, increasing ventilation and using better fertilizers with enough irrigation could help increase productivity while keeping high fruit quality inside the greenhou...

  • 1 dag geleden · The major cost disparities between green hydrogen and conventional ... Diagrams illustrating the value chain are presented below in Figure 1, with ...

  • In recent years, global efforts towards a future with sustainable energy have intensified the development of renewable energy sources (RESs) such as offshore wind, solar photovoltaics (PVs), hydro, and geothermal. Concurrently, green hydrogen, produced via water electrolysis using these RESs, has been recognized as a promising solution to decarbonizing traditionally hard-to-abate sectors. Furthermore, hydrogen storage provides a long-duration energy storage approach to managing the intermittency of RESs, which ensures a reliable and stable electricity supply and supports electric grid operations with ancillary services like frequency and voltage regulation. Despite significant progress, the hydrogen economy remains nascent, with ongoing developments and persistent uncertainties in economic, technological, and regulatory aspects. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the green hydrogen value chain, encompassing production, transportation logistics, storage methodologies, and end-use applications, while identifying key research gaps. Particular emphasis is placed on the integration of green hydrogen into both grid-connected and islanded systems, with a focus on operational strategies to enhance grid resilience and efficiency over both the long and short terms. Moreover, this paper draws on global case studies from pioneering green hydrogen projects to inform strategies that can accelerate the adoption and large-scale deployment of green hydrogen technologies across dive...

FAQs

How do you find the major organic product of a reaction? ›

Final answer: The major organic product of a reaction is the most significant product formed. For example, in the reaction of carbon dioxide and water under certain conditions, the major organic product is glucose.

What is the major organic product? ›

Answer and Explanation:

A Major organic product is a compound or product formed in a reaction that obeys Markovnikov's rule.

What provide the major organic product in the reaction below ch3ch2mgbr? ›

Answer and Explanation:

It is known that a Grignard reagent predominantly acts as a base towards alcohols as the -OH groups in alcohols get deprotonated. Hence, C H 3 C H 2 M g B r deprotonates C H 3 O H to produce ethane ( C H 3 C H 3 ) and C H 3 O M g B r as the major organic products.

What provide the major organic product of the reaction below CH3CH2OH? ›

For example, if the reactant is ethanol (CH3CH2OH), the major organic product would be diethyl ether (CH3CH2OCH2CH3).

How to find the major product of reaction? ›

Applying Markovnikov Rule

Hence according to Markovnikov Rule, when hydrogen is added to the carbon with more hydrogen, we will get the major product. This means that when hydrogen is added to carbon-1, which has more hydrogen, and bromine is added to carbon-2, the product 2-bromopropane will be the major product.

What is major organic reaction? ›

The basic organic chemistry reaction types are addition reactions, elimination reactions, substitution reactions, pericyclic reactions, rearrangement reactions, photochemical reactions and redox reactions. In organic synthesis, organic reactions are used in the construction of new organic molecules.

What is the product of this Grignard reaction? ›

The Grignard Reaction is the addition of an organomagnesium halide (Grignard reagent) to a ketone or aldehyde, to form a tertiary or secondary alcohol, respectively. The reaction with formaldehyde leads to a primary alcohol.

Is CH3CH2MgBr a Grignard reagent? ›

The Grignard reagent, CH3CH2MgBr, can be used to prepare. all of these.

What is the major product formed in the following reaction C6H5Br mg? ›

Expert-Verified Answer

When C6H5Br is reacted with Mg in the presence of dry ether it undergoes a synthesis reaction. The product formed is C6H5MgBr.

What is the reaction of CH3CH2OH? ›

When ethanol (CH3CH2OH) undergoes complete combustion with oxygen (O2), the products formed are carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O), heat and light. This reaction is an example of rapid oxidation, where a substance reacts with oxygen to release energy in the form of heat and light.

What is the reaction of CH3CH2OH and HCl? ›

Expert-Verified Answer. Ethanol (CH3CH2OH) reacts as a base with hydrochloric acid (HCl) to form an ethyl oxonium ion (CH3CH2OH2+) and a chloride ion (Cl-). The chemical equation for this reaction is: CH3CH2OH + HCl -> CH3CH2OH2+ + Cl-.

Why is it important to compare the positive and negative test results with those of known compounds? ›

This direct visual comparison of the results of testing the unknown against a known positive test and a known negative test confirms that the reagents are good and you are performing the test properly.

How do you find the main product of a reaction? ›

How do you find the reactants and products? The reactants and products of a chemical reaction can be identified by their position relative to the chemical reaction arrow: Reactants are always written on the left side of the arrow (going in) Products are always written on the right side of the arrow (coming out)

What is the major product in organic chemistry? ›

Major product: The product that is produced in the greatest amount in a chemical reaction.

How to find major products in elimination reaction? ›

Zaitsev's rule is an empirical rule used to predict the major products of elimination reactions. It states that in an elimination reaction the major product is the more stable alkene with the more highly substituted double bond.
